Engine Options of the All-New 2020 Ford Explorer

 

The Explorer's engine options have really been updated for 2020 and the 3.0L EcoBoost was enhanced by the Ford Performance team for the Explorer ST model. With four engine options to choose from, the Ford Explorer enables a full range of power choices.

The standard 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder engine develops an amazing 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 5,300 pounds. Giving an EPA rated Miles Per Gallon (MPG) of 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway, the Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Explorer is incredibly fuel efficient. The All Wheel Drive (AWD) Explorer is also fuel efficient at 20 MPG city and 27 MPG highway.

Ford's 3.0L twin-turbocharged, direct-injected EcoBoost V6 engine develops 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Able to tow up to 5,600 pounds, this 3.0L engine gets 18 MPG with city driving and 24 MPG driving on the highway.

Enhanced for the Ford Explorer ST, the performance-inspired, high powered 3.0L turbocharged EcoBoost engine puts out a whopping 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 143 mph, this Ford Performance team designed engine knocks out the competition. Like the 3.0L above, the MPG ratings for all those horses are very good at 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. Towing capacity maxes out at 5,600 pounds.

The 2020 Ford Explorer also has a hybrid option. Using a 3.3L Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) engine, this hybrid produces 318 horsepower and 322 lb-ft of torque. It makes your on- and off-road exploring more fuel efficient.
